Compare take-home pay between countries
Tax is one piece of the picture — these comparisons make the structural reasons visible without declaring a winner. They do not account for healthcare, pensions, cost of living, or residency eligibility. See the assumptions on each comparison page.
Available comparisons
- United States vs United Kingdom — the first cross-Atlantic comparison, normalized at three income levels with documented exchange-rate caveats.
How we choose what to compare
A 111-country set has 6,105 possible pairs. We don't publish them all. Each comparison must satisfy:
- Genuine demonstrated search or user demand (not just keyword volume)
- Independent, primary-source data on both sides
- A non-trivial explanation for the structural difference
- Author approval before release
What's deliberately excluded
- "Best country to live in" rankings — taxes alone don't determine life outcomes
- Relocation recommendations
- Currency speculation or "where to retire" content
- Generic "X vs Y" pages without a defined comparison scenario
